About Lens View

A journey sparked upon a newspaper invitation to be a Student Correspondent (Photojournalist) by LianHe Zao Bao, ZbComma. An opportunity long awaited for a 14 year old individual with a burning desire to begin a passion sat on prior. An envelop with an application and five (5) photos of different themes, an official writeup, and an interview set the voyage to fulfilling a passion on sail.

Arriving at the destination of the unknown, new techniques were learnt, new friends were made, new opportunities were made. Adorned with a brand new knight in a shining armor, my red Nikon D3200 DSLR stood proudly despite being a simple beginner/intermediary grade equipment, each shot it shoots is an enemy taken down, a photograph taken, an addition to the victims decorating the photo galleries.

As a newbie to the field of photojournalism, I was given an opportunity to be paired with an experienced photojournalist on the to cover a news due to be posted the following morning. the article was dated back in 18 June 2014 for the “Longest Bread Pudding made by the Royal Plaza on Scott”. This was made in celebration of their 40th anniversary, the Bread Pudding spreads 30 Meters in length. This experience was both an enticing and a nerve-wrecking one, being only 15 at that time, being treated as a professional by the staffs of the Hotel was something I was not expecting. Furthermore, I experienced the totality of how a photojournalist job is executed alongside each requirements the papers requires for a perfect image to be taken.

The original glass jar with the bread pudding that was given to me alongside their press release still lies in my studio, of course, the bread pudding was eaten, and yes, the girl in the news is me, hi.

Through my time as a student correspondent/photojournalist, I took up various leadership positions, two times orientation camp team leader and one time participation in the selection of new comers to the group I was in, to be specific. My role was to aid the integration of newbies into the system created by our directors and to look out for individuals as a team leader.

The acquisition of the Adobe Suite Program skills were taught through tutorials given by seniors of the group. A heavy emphasis was placed on Adobe Photoshop and Adobe Lightroom programs.

These were most of my takeaway through this experience as a journalist and as an external curriculum activity that brought about other individuals with similar interest in the field of photography and journalism.
